Reasons to Book a Trip on Black Friday

It’s that time of year when your inbox is filling up with Black Friday deals and Cyber Monday offers from, well, pretty much every company that you’ve ever bought anything from.

Maybe you’ve got your eye on something to snap up while the deals are on – or maybe you’re already tired of the offers. Either way, there’s no escaping that it’s currently discount season.

The Black Friday frenzy has grown bigger and bigger over the past few years – extending to Cyber Monday offers and even Cyber Week sales. In fact, according to researched published by The Independent, the average household is estimated to spend almost £430 over the four-day sales weekend this year.

But what on? Well, apparently we’re mostly looking for items of clothing, toys, games, small electrical items, and tech. This could be the super-prepared among us planning ahead for Christmas.

For some, though, it’s just about the thrill of getting a good deal. According to The Independent‘s report, a third of shoppers polled by a digital commerce platform admitted that they will “simply buy whatever deal seems the best, regardless of what the item is”.

This leads us to ask – do we really need another opportunity to buy even more stuff that we don’t really need?

If you ask us, there is a better way to spend your pennies this Black Friday. Instead of buying another new item of clothing, or another phone that you’re only going to upgrade in a year anyway, why not book that dream trip?

Now we know what you’re going to say – of course a travel company would say that. But we’re serious, and we have some good reasons! Keep reading to find out why you should consider booking that bucket-list-ticking trip instead of buying new stuff this Black Friday…

Some Black Friday deals just aren’t that good

You might think that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the best times in the year to get great deals while online shopping. In reality, though, this might not always be the case.

As The Independent explains:

“A year-long investigation into pricing data and consumer demand across more than 21,000 products by shopping comparison site Idealo suggests that if shoppers can wait until Christmas Eve, more than four in 10 products will be cheaper than they are during the late November rush.

Of the top 10 product categories, Idealo found that only laptops were cheapest on Black Friday.”

Yes, some Black Friday deals might be very tempting – but keep in mind that many online retailers run offers throughout the year, whether it be the January sales, last-season price cuts or summer sales. If an online shop is offering 40% off shoes throughout Cyber Week (for example), you may well find that there is a much better deal come January.

Travel companies, however, do not roll out massive discounts every other month. Big reductions on trips – whether it’s flights, accommodation or (especially) activities – are hard to come by.

But now, even travel brands are hopping on the Black Friday bandwagon. This means that now could actually be a good time to look for travel deals – especially if you’re looking for something specialist like a trekking trip or diving course trip.

Now we love an offer here at The Bucket List Company – we regularly run deals with freebies for different trips. But we know that Black Friday is when the ‘big guns’ come out, so to speak. Unlike most eCommerce companies, we want to make sure that we release our very best offers for the Cyber Week period. No run-of-the-mill deals here.

We can’t speak for other travel companies, of course, but let’s just say that if you’re looking to tick a bucket list adventure off your list, the next few days will be the time to do it!

Memories make you happier than things

Finally, we have a somewhat philosophical standpoint. But really, it’s nothing new. When it comes down to it, we all know that memories are much more enriching than things. You might get an immediate buzz out of buying, say, a new TV, but you’ll soon get used to the slightly higher picture quality, and before you know it there’ll be a new, higher-resolution model on the market to pine after.

The incredible memories of trekking the Inca Trail, or walking along the Great Wall of China, though, cannot be replaced. In fact, in an old blog post, we actually wrote about how it’s been proven people who spend money on experiences are happier.

As we said then, “[A] survey published in The Journal of Positive Psychology stated that people who spend their money on an expensive materialistic item would find the value and novelty of owning them will wear off within just days of the purchase, compared to an experience creating memories that will last a lifetime!”

It’s not hard to see why – when you’re on a brand new adventure, you see sights you’ve spent your whole life imagining, you eat brand new food, learn about new cultures, discover fascinating history and make friends that will last a lifetime. That’s something you simply can’t find on Amazon!

And if you’re thinking, well, that’s all well and good, but buying a new gadget is much cheaper than a holiday – you might want to think again! We don’t want to give too much away yet, but with our monthly payment options, you could secure yourself a place on your dream trip during Cyber Weekend with us for less than the price of a new pair of trainers!

All we can say is stay tuned and check our Facebook page on the 29th for more info!
