Iceland Winter Adventure

You’ll fly from London to Reykjavík’s Keflavík airport where your driver will meet you for an incredible introductory afternoon in Reykjanes peninsula’s beautiful Blue Lagoon.

You’ll spend a few hours soaking in the geothermal natural spa there, but if you’re imagining a nice David Lloyd, forget it, that’s not how you do things with The Bucket List Company in Iceland.

Think bright blue waters surrounded by black lava fields, where your skin glows brightly thanks to the copious amounts of silica and sulphur that soak you. Mmm.

Once you’ve dried off post-relaxation, you’ll be whisked off to your hotel back in Reykjavík for a short welcome meeting.

You’ll head west to experience the Golden Circle today, the half-day circuit of Iceland’s most incredible natural attractions.

In the National Park of Þingvellir, you’ll discover the faults and fissures that tell of the Earth’s crust’s rifting.

You’ll ogle the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, before witnessing the spouting geysir Strokkur spewing water 30m high into the air!

In the afternoon you’ll drive south to Vík, hopefully with enough time for an optional extra visit to a secret lagoon in Fludir along the way!

Start by listening to the powerful Atlantic waves crashing along the strange black beaches of Vík and Reynisfjara (and keep an eye out for two legendary trolls). Nothing looks quite real here, so be sure to get your camera out.

Next, you’ll hike at the stunning Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon, and we might even teach you how to pronounce it. Then in the afternoon, you’ll enjoy a stunning drive through the lava fields of Laki before arriving at your hotel in Glacier Lagoon for a delicious group dinner (included).

Want to raise your pulse a little more on Day 3? Add on the ATV tour and off-road along the black sand beaches, with stunning views of Iceland’s southernmost tip on the way to the famous Sólheimasandur plane wreck.

You’ll venture east along into the region of Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. It’s an amazing opportunity to visit one of Iceland’s most amazing natural wonders, because every winter, intricate ice caves form within the glacier!

You’ll be guided on a fascinating tour through the incredible formations – words can’t describe the bright blue brilliance of these icy jewels!

In the afternoon, you’ll be driven to Glacier Lagoon for beautiful views of lofty icebergs and some of the most picturesque scenery you’re ever likely to witness. From here you’ll head to Diamond Beach, a strip of black sand that sparkles with icebergs that look like – you guessed it – diamonds. Eyes peeled for the Northern Lights in the evening too, please.

A group dinner will be included at your hotel this evening.

It’s four or five hours of driving back through stunning landscapes to Iceland’s capital this morning, made even better with two awe-inspiring stops along the way.

First, you’ll marvel over the unreal waterfall of Seljalandsfoss, and later you’ll pause in Skaftafell National Park to walk up to Svartifoss waterfall and take in the stunning basalt columns there.

And if you thought that was enough for one day, think again – you’ll be straight aboard a whale-watching tour the moment you arrive back in Reykjavík, to look for porpoises, dolphins, humpbacks and minke whales.

More waterfalls and hot springs lie in wait on Day 6. From Reykjavík, you’ll be driven west to the beautiful area of Borgarfjörður, where you’ll find the glorious waterfalls of Hraunfossar and the most powerful hot spring in Europe, Deildartunguhver. At 100°C, that’s a shower you don’t want to get caught in.

Thankfully the water at the nearby Krauma Geothermal baths is mixed with cold water from Rauðsgil, and you’ll enjoy soaking away at the perfect temperature all afternoon.

You’ll dip your feet in another natural spring on your journey north towards Snæfellsnes peninsula. And if the conditions are right, you’ll relish the perfect showing of the Northern Lights come night-time (made even more delicious thanks to the tasty 3-course group dinner you’ll enjoy in your guesthouse!).

You’ll visit small fishing towns and come face to face with the picturesque mountain
Kirkjufell on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Once you’re within the Snæfellsjökull National Park, you could stretch your legs by climbing up to the crater Saxhóll for some fantastic views.

Or you could head to the Djúpalónssandur pebble beach to marvel over the mystical rock formations. But there’s nothing quite like what’s in store next: your tour of the 8000-year-old lava tube cave Vatnshellir, which you’ll enjoy in the afternoon. (Watch your step as you venture into the centre of the earth, down dark spiral staircases surrounded by ancient lava!)
