Tour du Mont Blanc Itinerary

  • DAY 1: LES HOUCHES

LES HOUCHES You will meet your Bucket List Leaders at the airport and fly out as a group. If you have booked 'Land Only' we will see you in France soon! On this day, you begin your trip in the charming, traditional village of Les Houches. We will have an Orientation Meeting and dinner together. Guests can check in to rooms after 3 pm.

  • DAY 2: LES HOUCHES - LES CONTAMINES

LES HOUCHES - LES CONTAMINES Leaving the very pleasant village of Les Houches will mark the start of our trip. Taking the cable car to Bellevue makes for an easier first day, cutting out the first ascent. The TMB path contours through the forest high above the Bionnassay Valley, while passing through pretty Alpine hamlets with excellent views of Mont Blanc and across the foothills of the Alps. The Dôme du Gouter and Aiguille de Bionnassay dominate the views with the impressive glacier between them. Then the climb up the Col de Tricot starts, and the descent follows a series of switchbacks to Chalet de Miage. Following a riverside path at the end of the day will make for a very pleasing approach into Les Contamines. Approx. Distance: 13.5km (4 - 5hrs of walking)

  • DAY 3: LES CONTAMINES - LES CHAPIEUX

LES CONTAMINES - LES CHAPIEUX A short private transfer (10 min) to Notre Dame de la Gorge. Climb over the Col du Bonhomme and the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme leading to the Chapieux Valley. Over the Aiguille des Glaciers and descending to your lodge. Approx. Distance: 14.5km (6 - 7hrs of walking)

  • DAY 4: LES CHAPIEUX - COURMAYEUR

LES CHAPIEUX - COURMAYEUR Short private transfer (10-15 min) to the start of your trek over the Col de la Seigne to the Italian side of the border. On this walk, you can expect spectacular views. Descent into Val Ferret and transfer by private transfer (30 min) from La Cantine de la Visaille to Courmayeur. Approx. Distance: 15km (6hrs of walking)

  • DAY 5: COURMAYEUR - CHAMPEX

COURMAYEUR - CHAMPEX Private transfer from Courmayeur to the start of the walk (30-40 min). Cross the Grand Col Ferret and arrive in the quaint but beautiful village of La Fouly in Switzerland. Be wowed by the awesome views over the massif of Combins in the East and on the Italian side of Mont Blanc. Transfer by private transfer to Champex (45 min), a Swiss village boasting a beautiful lake. Approx. Distance: 13km (6 - 7hrs of walking)

  • DAY 6: CHAMPEX - LA FORCLAZ - TRIENT

CHAMPEX - LA FORCLAZ - TRIENT Starting directly from your hotel, the highest point of the walk is reached today as you climb over the Fenêtre d’Arpette (2,750 m). Savour the breathtaking views while you descend alongside the Trient glacier and hike to your lodge in Martigny/Trient. Approx. Distance: 15km (7 - 9hrs of walking) In case of uncertain weather, we propose a shorter itinerary by the Cold de Bovine pass. In this scenario, you may expect 13km (5:30hrs of walking)

  • DAY 7: TRIENT - ARGENTIÈRE

TRIENT - ARGENTIÈRE Over the Col de la Balme and back to France with fantastic views of Mont Blanc and Aiguille Verte; you will have a few trail options for the descent to Le Tour. A short public bus transfer (10 min) will take you down the valley to Argentière where our hotel is located. Approx. Distance: 12.7km (6 to 7hrs of walking)

  • DAY 8: ARGENTIÈRE - CHAMONIX

ARGENTIÈRE - CHAMONIX Enjoy the wonderful Balcon des Aiguilles Rouges, before a climb to Lac Blanc. Take in all the beautiful scenery that follows: Aiguille Verte, Les Drus, La Mer de glace, Aiguilles de Chamonix, Mont Blanc du Tacul, Aiguille du Goûter, and finally, Mont Blanc! Descend to Chamonix by Le Praz. You will take the cableway of La Flégère. Approx. Distance: 9.6km (6hrs of walking)

  • Day 9: CHAMONIX

CHAMONIX After an early breakfast, we transfer to the airport and start our journey home. Not ready to go home yet? Why not stay 2 extra nights in a 4* hotel after (or before if desired) the tour to enjoy a wonderful time in Chamonix.

Tour du Mont Blanc Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can a beginner do the Tour du Mont Blanc?

You don’t need to be super athletic to complete the Tour du Mont Blanc, but you should be comfortable walking 6-8 hours daily on rocky or hilly terrain. Stamina is more important than anything, as it’s not a quick blast up a mountain but rather something you need to sustain over 10 days.

  • Can you get altitude sickness on the Tour du Mont Blanc?

No, altitude sickness generally can occur at heights over 3000 metres and all the passes along the Mont Blanc circuit are below this, therefore it would be very unlikely that you would suffer from altitude sickness.

  • Which countries does the TMB go through?

The Tour du Mont Blanc trail route goes through France, Italy & Switzerland. The official start is in Les Houches in the valley of Chamonix, France but there are other points you can access the trail from Italy and Switzerland.

  • What currency do I need to hike the Tour du Mont Blanc?

Most of the refuges do not accept bank cards, so you will need to take cash with you when you hike the Tour du Mont Blanc. Make sure you take enough cash with you as ATMs are limited along the route. What currency? Euros along with a few Swiss francs.

  • Can you get wifi in the TMB refuges?

Most of the time, no. These are high altitude mountain huts often above 2000m. Expect not to be able to connect and enjoy switching off and onto nature.
