Morocco Trek to Mount Toubkal
About the area
A one-week Mount Toubkal trek to the summit of North Africa’s highest mountain.
Mt Toubkal stands 4167m above sea level. Its summit is the Atlas Mountains’ highest peak and boasts superb views of the North African landscape. It is the central attraction of Toubkal National Park and lies about 40 miles south of Marrakesh. Most companies off the Mount Toubkal trek in 2 or 3 days. To help with acclimitisation and increase summit chances our trek is 4 days in length.
Marrakesh is home to palaces, mosques and gardens. Visible from miles away is the Moorish minaret – the largest mosque in the city. It is known as the ‘Red City’ because of the buildings and clay that contribute to its make up.
In Morocco, nature is never far away. With desert, mountains, valleys and the coast line, wildlife can be found around every corner! There is plenty to offer fans of the outdoors and hikers of all levels will love walking the Moroccan mountains. Due to the time of year and the altitude, you will probably have the chance to see snow when climbing Mount Toubkal!
Our Mt Toubkal trek passes through scenery on well-defined paths of the Morocco mountains and consequently, it is not as strenuous as you may think. As the altitude increases, the paths do become steeper but the climb awards dramatic views towards Marrakech and the spectacular Anti-Atlas mountains. We discover an insight into the life and culture of the locals who are unbelievably friendly people when passing through remote Berber villages and terraced fields. Reaching the top of the highest mountain in Morocco is a really unforgettable and authentic experience. We finish the trek with some free time in the colourful imperial city of Marrakech where you can pick up your last minute souvenirs!
