How Much Does An Adventure Holiday In Costa Rica Cost?

Share this article:

If you’re thinking about an adventure holiday in Costa Rica, there are some pretty important questions you’ll be asking – when should I go, where should I visit, what do I need to look out for…

But there’s one question that’s probably at the very top of your list when you’re considering whether to book those flights or not – how much does an adventure holiday in Costa Rica cost?

After all, you need to know whether it’s realistic this year, next year, the year after or whether an instalment plan might suit you best (more about that in a moment… or if you’re impatient, check out our ‘Best of Costa Rica’ trip and head to the bottom for instalment payment info!)

So, to give you a quick answer – it really does depend.

It depends how adventurous you want to be, where you’re flying from (and what time of year you’re flying), whether you want to go ultra-luxury or keep costs down, whether fine dining is your thing or street food is more your bag…

You get my drift.

Of course, there’s always an option where your itinerary is sorted and your costs are all worked out ahead of time – that’s with The Bucket List’s Best of Costa Rica trip, which you can find out more about here.

How To Find The Cheapest Flights To Costa Rica

Finding affordable flights is crucial for keeping the costs of an adventure holiday in Costa Rica manageable.

If you’re looking to keep Costa Rica costs to a minimum, shopping around for cheaper flights is one way you can make some serious savings.

Busier periods such as the summer months tend to be your more expensive times, as always seems to be the case, but be conscious that travelling out of season can mean more interchangeable weather.

Booking at least 6 months in advance (or longer if you can) is a great way to ensure you save a fair whack, given how demand can affect prices nearer to your date of departure.

Consider flying into one of Costa Rica’s two major airports, Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José, or Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia, as they typically offer more flight options and competitive rates.

If you’re looking for a guide on when to travel to Costa Rica, our trips run in March, April and November, which are all perfect times in terms of being out of peak season but still getting the best of the weather!

How Much Is Food In Costa Rica?

The cost of food in Costa Rica can vary depending on your dining preferences…

But as a rough guide, local sodas (which are small restaurants) are very affordable, with prices ranging from £3 to £10 per person depending on the area and what you’re ordering.

The same goes for purchasing from local shops and eateries, with prices being cheap compared to what we’re used to in the UK.

If you’re looking for something more upmarket, restaurants in touristy areas can be more expensive, with meals costing between £8 – £20 per head.

Accommodation costs in Costa Rica span a wide range, catering to different budgets and preferences. Budget hostels can be found for as little as £5 – £15 per night, while mid-range hotels typically cost between £30 – £100 per night.

Luxury resorts and eco-lodges can range from £150 – £400 or more per night, depending on the amenities and location.

The important thing to note is that wherever you choose to stay, make sure you plan in advance… and book with a reputable travel provider!
