If you’re looking to book an adventure holiday focused on gorilla trekking, you’ve come to the right place.
But there’s probably one question you want the answer to – will you see gorillas on your gorilla trekking holiday?
The short answer is yes, you’ll most likely see gorillas on your gorilla trekking holiday in Uganda. But you might have to trek a fair distance depending on where the gorillas are in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – which is 2000m above sea level.
It’s a vast forest and a beautiful landscape, but as you’d expect, the gorillas’ natural habitat can be quite challenging and unpredictable.
Being totally wild animals, they roam freely within the dense forests and their location can vary from day to day, so you might see them first thing or… it might be a bit of an expedition to get a proper look!
Think of the Attenborough nature documentaries we’ve all seen – the ‘behind the scenes’ or ‘how it’s filmed’ bits are always an eye-opener. It can take camera crews days or even weeks of 24/7 filming to get the footage we see in the final production.
But believe us, it’s well worth the wait.
The distance you’ll need to cover can vary depending on where the gorillas are, but on our Ugandan Gorilla Trekking holiday, we’ve got experienced guides and a small group (maximum of 16), so we’ve got the best chance of seeing gorillas.

What Else Will I See On A Ugandan Gorilla Trekking Adventure?
It goes without saying that the main goal of a Gorilla Trekking adventure is to, well, see gorillas in their natural habitat!
And observing gorilla families go about their daily routines, interacting with each other in the wild forest from a safe distance is a life-affirming experience.
But as you’d expect in a lush forest, there’s plenty of other life, too…
The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to a diverse range of animals, including chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and more than 300 species of birds.
There’s a fair chance that along your journey to see one of nature’s most incredible animals, you’ll see a few other friends, perhaps even a primate or two.
Keep an eye out for reptiles, amphibians, and the giant forest hog – and if you’re lucky, you might even get a glimpse of a forest elephant!
Will I See Chimpanzees On A Gorilla Trek?
On the Bucket List Company ‘Gorilla Trekking in Uganda’ trip, you definitely will!
While chimpanzees do inhabit the Bwindi Forest, they can be pretty elusive and spend a lot more time on the move than gorillas (who already tend to move around a lot!).
The good news, though, is that our Ugandan adventure doesn’t just head to Bwindi Forest… we also spend time in Kibale National Park, home to one of the highest populations of chimpanzees in the world.
That’s on day 4 of our 9-day trip, with experienced local guides and rangers helping us to track chimpanzee families and experience something truly exhilarating – chimps in the wild are absolutely fascinating and awe-inspiring.
On top of that, we’ll also head out on a swamp walk after a 4-hour chimpanzee adventure, which will give you the chance to witness various species of birds and monkeys.
What Other Wild Animals Will I See On A Gorilla Trekking Holiday?
While lions, tigers, and bears (oh, my) might spring to mind whenever I hear a question about animals in jungles, forests, and in the wild, that’s not quite the case here.
Lions, absolutely! In fact, day 6 of our TBLC adventure starts at 5am with a Lion Conversation Researcher before an incredible day of Lion Tracking.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll be absolutely fascinated by Lions, one of the world’s few apex predators.
It’s one of my favourite parts of the trip and on top of spending time observing gorillas, chimpanzees, monkeys, birds, and all that Uganda’s National Parks have to offer, it’s a truly memorable experience.
