Uncover Darwin's footsteps in Santa Cruz

Begin your Galapagos journey on Santa Cruz Island by visiting the Charles Darwin Research Station and get up-close with the famous Galapagos Tortoise.

Wander around Puerto Ayora, the archipelago’s small yet bustling capital known for its local shops, eateries, and galleries.

But if it’s quirky animals you’re after, then you’ll want to head to North Seymour Island to catch a glimpse of the unmistakable Blue-footed Boobies performing their courtship dance.

The daring Magnificent Frigatebirds flaunting their bulbous red gular sacs are another sight you really don’t want to miss and simply will not forget.

Marvel at the red sand beaches of Rabida

Rabida Island, with its distinctive red beaches and cliff-side coves, provides a stark contrast to the classic turquoise waters and offers fantastic snorkelling opportunities.

It’s a great change of pace and gives you a bit of time to unwind and connect with nature – oh, and to top it off, there’s a pretty healthy population of sea lions hanging about the island, too.

Next on from there you have Espanola Island, the exclusive breeding ground for the Waved Albatross, making it a must-visit for birding enthusiasts.

The island’s also famous for its stunning turquoise bay, Gardner Bay, perfect for snorkelling and relaxing beach time.

Traverse the Lunar Landscapes of Bartolome

Climbing to the summit of Bartolome Island is one of the best ways to catch awe-inspiring views on the Galapagos Islands – you’ll get a gorgeous view of the lunar-like landscape, Pinnacle Rock, and surrounding islands.

Follow it up with an invigorating dip in the crystal-clear waters and experience the sort of peace and serenity that you can spend a lifetime searching for!

Then, if you’re feeling a little bit more adventurous, you can enjoy a deep dive underwater at Kicker Rock…

It’s a thrill a minute at an iconic diving and snorkelling shark where you might bump into sea turtles, sharks, and an array of colourful reef fish.

Venture to the Wild Highlands of Santa Cruz

The lush highlands of Santa Cruz offer a chance to walk among roaming giant tortoises in their natural habitat – El Chato Tortoise Reserve.

It’s a truly stunning experience and given the age the tortoises can live to (175 years plus), maybe it’s chance to let some of their wisdom rub off on you…

Oh, and fun little fact – a Galapagos tortoise called Harriet was collected in the Galapagos Islands by Charles Darwin in 1835, before living out the last 20 years of her life in Australia at a zoo in the care of Steve Irwin and his family.

Neat, right?

Discover Vibrant Marine Life And Seek Out Pink Flamingos

Considered one of the best snorkelling sites, Devil’s Crown offers an underwater spectacle of tropical fish, rays, coral formations, and even hammerhead sharks beneath a submerged volcanic cone.

If you can’t get enough of snorkelling, reefs and diving, then the Galapagos Islands really are like heaven on earth!

That’s not all though, Floreana has a rich history and varied landscape AND is home to Flamingo Lagoon, one of the largest flamingo populations on the islands.

Enjoying these magical birds in their natural habitat is a wonderful experience not to be missed, ticking off a few of those all-important unique experiences on your bucket list trip.
