Mount Toubkal is 4167m (13,671ft)

Toubkal is a mountain the in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco and is a great first 4000m peak for you to tick off your Bucket List.

Not only is it the highest mountain in the Atlas region, it is also the highest in Morocco, North Africa and the Arab world. From the top you can see from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert.

Mount Toubkal can be climbed in 2 days with the trip starting in Imlil. But, we would recommend looking at a longer trips to get acclimatised. On our Mount Toubkal trip, we offer a 4-day trek. This gives you the opportunity of two high passes (2000m+) before you reach Imlil at the end of the second day.

The walk from Imlil (1800m) to the refuge (3207m), is a hard days walking, especially if you haven’t acclimatised slowly. By taking your time you also get to see plenty more of the Atlas Mountains. Toubkal is getting busier, with many people opting for the 2-day trek. Quite often when we trek the first two days, we don’t actually see any other trekkers.

When you talk to trekkers about their Bucket Lists you always hear the words Kilimanjaro, Annapurna Circuit or Everest base camp mentioned, you don’t often hear people talking about Mount Toubkal being on peoples Bucket Lists. Over the last few years though we have seen an increase in people choosing to climb Toubkal as a training climb for the above.

If you have never trekked at altitude before, the 5400m of Everest Base Camp or the 5895m of Kilimanjaro may seem very daunting, they are also not cheap trips. Mount Toubkal will give you the opportunity to test your body and see how it copes trekking at altitude.

The Bucket List Company offers both a Winter Toubkal trek for more experienced trekkers. The standard Toubkal ascent is achievable for all reasonably fit individuals.
