Best Things to Do in India
Landed here because you’re looking for the best things to do in India? Then it’s good news, you’ve come to the right place.
So you’re thinking about going to India? Now that’s a great choice! India’s one of those places everyone has to visit at least once. Packed to the brim with unique culture, beautiful architecture and unbelievable flavour, it’s a must-see for people looking to experience a completely different way of life.
But in case you didn’t know, the country’s pretty big. Actually, it’s very big. So unless you’re planning on moving to India for a year, chances are you’ll only be scratching the surface of things to see and do there.
So what are the best things to do in India that need to go on your Bucket List for the second most populated country in the world?
That’s why I’ve written this blog – your one-stop-shop for everything you need to do in India. From the Red Fort to rafting and tigers to the Taj Mahal, this checklist has got you covered so you can truly make India the trip of a lifetime.
Discover Delhi
The biggest city in India and one of the most fascinating in the world, Delhi is a must for your trip.
Whether it’s exploring the striking Red Fort, visiting any of India’s amazing temples or simply strolling through the street markets, you’ll never be short of things to do in Delhi. There’s explosions of history and colour round every corner, and that’s before you get to the cuisine.
Pakora, chaat, gol gappa, kofta, kebabs, any type of curry you can think of… I’m salivating just thinking about it. India is famous for its unique dishes packed full of spice and flavour. Go to a restaurant or walk through Delhi’s renowned street markets to try something new (just be wary of the infamous food poisoning known as Delhi-belly – make sure you stick to the busy stalls!).
Plenty of opportunities for souvenirs and to meet the very friendly locals as well. If you want to get as much out of Delhi as possible, I’d recommend a notoriously fast-paced rickshaw ride around the city – just hold onto your hats!
Walking and the wild
On the opposite end to the bustling Delhi is a retreat to nature. India has some of the most picturesque settings, scenic hikes and exotic animals you can find. Selfie anyone?
Our India Himalayan Adventure is the perfect trip for anyone looking to experience India’s wonderful landscapes. Our first hike is a short one to a typical hill village, accompanied by our resident naturalist explaining the way of life in the village.
Our second hike is for the full day. There are several great points to take photos, whether that’s in front of a waterfall or looking over the Ganges. Just make sure you’ve got proper shoes on (click here to watch a number of videos I’ve recorded on everything trekking).
India is also home to some of the most interesting wildlife imaginable, nothing like we’re used to over here. From elephants and leopards at Rajaji National Park to the elusive (and sadly endangered) Bengal tiger at Jim Corbett National Park, any animal-lovers are in for a real treat on the India Himalayan Adventure.
Wonder of the World, anyone?
India is rich with culture and tradition, and our India Himalayan Adventure ensures you see as much of it as possible.
Rishikesh is a fascinating town, and you’ll get to witness it on our walking tour. You’ll see temples, ashrams, the local bazaar and two suspended bridges over the Ganges. And then there’s Agra…
The Agra Fort was the main residence of the Mughal Dynasty emperors until India’s capital moved from Agra to Delhi. Today, the fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of India’s most astonishing buildings.
And of course, no trip to Agra would be complete without visiting the Taj Mahal. Truly a stunning piece of architecture, there’s a reason why it’s one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World. The ivory-white marble mausoleum is 73 metres tall and attracts millions of visitors every year. If you’re visiting India, the Taj Mahal really is a non-negotiable.
In need of a thrill?
And for all you thrill seekers out there, we’ve got something to raise your pulse too in our India Himalayan Adventure.
How does a 400-metre long zipline, 65 metres above the Ganges River sound? It’s certainly a unique way to enjoy the scenery, if you’ve got the stomach for it.
After something a little less high up? Hop on the water for a full day’s rafting on the Ganges, negotiating rapids all while under the supervision of our rafting experts (an introductory session to raft orienteering techniques will be given earlier in the trip).
And if you need a wind-down from all this activity, enjoy one of our early morning yoga sessions.
So, how about that trip?
This all sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? As I said before, India really is one of those places that should be on everyone’s bucket list. It’s such a different way and pace of life over there but it’s a country bursting at the seams with culture, nature and food.
If you want to be sure you’re seeing all the best bits (while getting a bit of a sweat on at points), our India Himalayan Adventure is the perfect trip for you. From just £2,700, all your accommodation, activities and most of your meals are taken care of. And with our team of experts with you every step of the way, you can rest assured that you’re receiving an authentic Indian experience.
