Winter is upon us, and depending on the kind of person you are, this will either be a source of great relief – at last, the cosy nights, crisp weekend hikes and cooler temperatures – or resignation – waving goodbye the long evenings, spontaneous barbecues and sunshine.
Ask a Bucket List Company guide, however, and you’ll probably find they’re somewhat ambivalent to the seasons’ change. Why? Well, frankly, it doesn’t matter too much what the weather’s doing in the UK when you spend half of your time off on adventures all over the world!
That’s one of the great things about our bucket list adventures – no matter what time of year you can get away, there is always something epic that you can do in an incredible destination.
So, if you’ve got
However you feel about this time of year, here are our top bucket list adventures in winter to get ticked off!

Sahara Desert Trek
If you’re looking to get away from the rain, it doesn’t get much better than the Sahara Desert! At 3.6 million square miles, this is the largest dry desert in the world, and it really is quite something to behold. Deep orange sand dunes stretch out as far as the eye can see, rippling across the landscape as though they’ve been shaped by a sculptor’s knife

Morocco White Water Rafting
If Morocco sounds perfect for you, but you’re more of a water baby than a land dweller, our Morocco white water rafting trip in March is the adventure for you! On this brilliant trip, we head to the stunning Atlas Mountain valleys to sample some of the best white water rapids you’ll ever see – in some of the most scenic locations, from river wilderness to the towering walls of the famous Cathedral Rock. This is called ‘Morocco’s Grand Canyon’ for a reason!
Explore all of this and so much more whilst getting a huge adrenaline rush, paddling through the surging waters, weaving between rocks, trees
Jordan Luxury Eco-Adventure
Our newest Trailblazers trip is another fantastic choice for anyone looking for a warm-climate adventure. The Jordan Luxury Eco-Adventure in September 2021 brings you plenty of sunshine, with temperatures into the high 20s. More importantly, though, it delivers ten days jam-packed with adventures of all kinds, from trekking through Dana Biosphere Reserve to snorkelling in the Red Sea, a jeep tour in Wadi Rum and floating in the Dead Sea.
This is escapism at its finest – when you’re not exploring on foot or underwater, you’ll be discovering ancient Wonders of the World, marvelling at the intricate hand-carving of Petra, and the Roman ruins of Jerash. For an all-round unforgettable experience that will feel like a full expedition in just ten days, few other countries come close.
Ngorongoro Higlands Trek
Going on a safari in the great African plains is high on every nature lover’s bucket list. And, believe it or not, winter is actually the perfect time to get it ticked! On our Ngorongoro Highlands trek, you will experience the rugged beauty of Tanzania’s vast landscapes up close, whether it be trekking past Mount Kilimanjaro, climbing up elevated volcanoes, or passing by flocks of flamingos at Lake Natron.
In November, when we run our Ngorongoro Highlands trekking trips, average temperatures in Tanzania are in the mid-twenties. This is ideal for hiking, and gives you a bit of an escape from the cold! Along the trek, you will see local Maasai Bomas, the famous Great Rift Valley escarpment, and countless amazing creatures, from zebras and giraffes to elephants and big cats.
Seasonal escapes for adventurers
Of course, not everyone bases their winter travel choices on escaping the cooler weather. In fact, some really embrace the lower temperatures and crisp climate.
If you’re looking to take on a bucket list challenge that is a little more intensive – or that requires snow – then winter is the obvious time to get it ticked.
Mount Everest Base Camp
Trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp is the stuff of legend – standing in the shadow of the highest mountain in the world is truly mind-blowing. Every year, we run at least two Everest Base Camp treks – one in spring and one in autumn. In these seasons, the weather is at
On the journey, you’ll climb up through local Sherpa villages, ancient Buddhist temples and beautiful mountain trails. Not to mention, you’ll get to explore the cultural gems of Kathmandu, from Monkey Temple to Durbar Square. Hiking in Nepal is a must for every adventurous traveller.
Great Wall of China Trek
If you’re in search of a bucket list experience that features the perfect balance of invigorating autumnal hiking and timeless cultural experiences, look no further than our Great Wall of China trek. Although it can’t actually be seen from space (myth busted!), the Great Wall is still an iconic historical site that wows everyone lucky enough to walk along its 10,000-mile length.
Walking the Great Wall of China with us, you will explore both restored and wild sections of the wall, all blanketed in beautiful autumn foliage. You will also have the opportunity to immerse yourself in China’s complex history, with tours of Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and Beijing’s old residential quarters. And, of course, you’ll be able to wander among the bright lights of downtown Beijing, visiting local shops and indulging in all the local delicacies, too!
