Machu Picchu is right at the top of many people’s bucket lists. But the biggest question you need to ask yourself is how are you getting there? The Salkantay route is more strenuous, a day longer and allows trekkers to see more wildlife. This trek to Machu Picchu will suit the more experienced, fit trekker who wants to get off the beaten path and values solitude, mountain scenery, opportunities to view wildlife, and a wider range of overnight options.
